A bad credit car loan may be your best way to purchase a car if mainstream lenders are turning you down. Sometimes buying a car is the second largest purchase a person will make in their lifetime, besides their house. That is why most people need an automotive loan. This allows them to pay small loan payments over time, plus an interest rate.

Some potential car buyers have bad credit, slow credit, or sometimes no credit at all! These bad credit car customers have difficult times getting approval from most banks for regular vehicle loans. Sometimes buyers with bad credit ratings may be turned down by many lending institutions, even though they are good people with established jobs. However, there may be a few black marks on their credit report that prevents banks from lending them the money they need for reliable transportation.

The first thing to do in your search for an automotive loan based on poor credit scores is to talk to your existing bank. If you have done business with them for a while, they may be more willing to give you an auto loan. Tell them what kind of down payment you can make on the car you want to buy, and the price of that car. Your lender may also want to know the make, model, and age of the automobile for which the car loan is being considered.

That does not guarantee that you will be approved for vehicle lending, however. If the bank gives loan approval, and you later cannot pay back the loan, the bank will repossess the car and sell it to recover its monetary loss. If the car you want to buy is not worth much money, or has poor resale value, you might not receive the car loan funds. To further protect their investment, the bank may also require that a person with a good credit rating be a cosigner for your auto loan.

Certain high-volume car dealerships, often found in major cities, may have programs for high risk vehicle loans. Your credit history is not a factor. However, you will need to show a pattern of steady work, might be required to have a certain amount of money in your bank accounts, and will probably have to pay a high down payment. Once again, the dealer will protect himself by requiring you to pay higher interest rates for your transportation loan. Think of it as the price you pay for having a poor credit score. No, it is not fair, because people in this situation can least afford to pay extra!

The majority of workers certainly need a car to get to and from their jobs. No car means no income, so it is imperative that you investigate a car loan even if you have bad credit. Buy a new vehicle as soon as possible (that is within your budget) so that you can continue earning from your job. If you keep up the loan payments and pay on time, your credit rating should improve, and you may have less trouble getting a loan in the future.

There are some genuinely helpful and affordable vehicle loan programs for poor-credit customers. You'll have to shop carefully to find them. Use the internet when possible, because you can view bank and car dealer websites at any time of the day or night to see what kinds of car loan terms they offer to those with bad credit ratings. Narrow the choices down to a few that seem promising, and make a few calls. You might even visit some of them in person. Check your choices with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any outstanding complaints, and how many have been filed.

It may take some extra work and time, but an affordable bad credit car loan that doesn't take advantage of you is possible to find.
